Planned burns scheduled to take place today near Lorne will not be ignited due to unsuitable conditions.
“We work closely with the Bureau of Meteorology to assess weather conditions, such as humidity, temperature and wind speed, and will only carry out burns when the conditions are suitable,” Incident Controller Stephanie Ryan said.
“We will look to reschedule planned burning at Lorne for later this week, when conditions are favourable,” she said.
Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) had planned to ignite two planned burns west of Lorne, covering an area of 1,600 hectares along Henderson Track and Sharps Road.
Unexpected levels of rain overnight have caused moisture in areas of forest scheduled for the planned burning, with crews on site this morning deeming the operations should be rescheduled.
Under the current public health advice, FFMVic’s planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, any adjustments will be made, in consultation with CFA, EPA and Department of Health.
